Glossary of terms
SMS:
Short Message Service - a basic text message which all phones are capable of receiving.
WAP push:
Wireless Application Protocol - a text message that contains a unique URL for the purposes of connecting to a web page.
URL:
Uniform Resource Locator - a means of locating a resource by describing its network location. Effectively it guides a device such as a mobile phone to a website or email address.
Bluetooth:
A radio signal that allows devices to send files to each other. All modern mobile phones and many laptops are Bluetooth enabled devices.
Ofcom:
Office of Communications - the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services.
DPA:
Data Protection Act (1998) - although not specific to mobile marketing, the DPA covers principles that govern the use of contact information help by you regarding your clients.
Database:
A list of information, usually personal information such as names, telephone numbers, email addresses, etc.
